"Hello, bitch!!"

Another Chinese-style day today.

The title is how I was addressed by another of the Inland Empire's greatest idiots.

The reason I bring it up is that it appears that's how most of Vana'diel views people who don't have all the gear that they do.

Frankly, in Vana'diel, your gear IS your reputation. That's why it doesn't surprise me to see someone jack a KClub and then server hop.

That's why it doesn't surprise me to see someone jack a Byakko's Haidate, get a warning put up on them in BG, then BRAG ABOUT IT like the fucking idiot did something that shouldn't have had someone reach into his RL room and wring his fucking neck!!

Without real consequences, all this stuff goes on and people are more than happy to do it.

That's why I have trouble trusting people in this game and that's why I'm not as "advanced" as people think I should be.

Gear defining you is just dumb.

I don't have the best but I know how to use every piece and do to the fullest. It always hurts me inside when I see fellow BLMs "doin it wrong". Maybe it's all Yin & Yang...

I can understand that point of view, but, otherwise, explain the abject disdain that people not only have for people with "gimp gear", but also the people and process which allows players to get good gear at various points in the game.

I mean, when you have people openly saying "I fucked your LS up, I stole your gear, I ninjared your lots, and I'm _PROUD OF IT_...", that seems to tell me that a person's word and honor is NOT their reputation in this game.

LOL no.

Your gear is a part of your first impression right alongside your job and sub levels, not your reputation.

Reputation is more than just your first impression. When you see a Paladin 75 subbing nin37 with Excal and Aegis using Valhalla Head/Body with Homam Hands/Legs and AF+1 Feet, your first impression is that he's going to be a great tank, right? However, that's just a first impression.

The reputation he earns as a mediocre tank who's better off coming on his mediocre-gear Monk comes from never using his MP and consequently dying so much that nobody wants to be whm or rdm in a PT he's in. At least on Monk he's contributing more to the group and someone else is doing the tanking.

Gear = part of first impression.
Gear != reputation.

Admittedly, if you use some weirdass gear you're going to get a reputation from it, but that's not just because it's your gear.

I mean, seriously, the Monk that fulltimes using Kinkobo instead of any H2H weapon? That's something that makes a reputation.

That's not what it's telling you. What it's telling you is "this person is a douche. Ignore that he exists,"

Alternatively*: "This person just ganked gear from you. If you have it in game logs, GM his ass before you log out."

* Alternate reaction only for first-hand encounters with gear theft. Forums don't count.
