And now, the Gardening nerf...

Well, they had another All Worlds Maintenance today, and it's not like we didn't eventually see a change in Gardening due to RMT coming, and they didn't disappoint...

From the update notes:

- The amount of items that can be gathered from each gardening attempt are limited to 1 for any characters that were created less than 90 days previous.

Hmmm...

I still have to wonder why they are still even doing the 14-day free trials at this point... One has to eventually wonder what the next abuse is going to be from RMT.

As for this one, I want a recount of the actual number of players on the game two weeks from now. I expect it to be nowhere close to the 2.35 M they claimed back in April.

If they could get rid of all the RMT /tell spam I'd be happy.

I'm curious if any legit player has ever even used the 14 day trial?

So am I, Evilpaul.

I think it is LONG past time they get rid of it.

I think this and the authentication stuff for the credit cards are efforts to rid RMT off the game.

They'll lose at least 2/3 of the characters, at minimum, at that point.

I live in the USA and I could not download a free trial because SE's website claimed I didn't! So I went out and bought a full blown copy for my wife to try the game with me... waste of cash in that aspect tbh...

but yes please SE get the hell rid of the trial accounts, the only people that use them are RMT at this point.

RMT spam is bugging the crap out of me but I can't see how you can prevent it... New players/chars need to communicate with others.

Whilst I'm sure it'll piss some peeps off, the gardening nerf is a good thing IMO.

mtg2k: I'm not sure I understand what the problem was that Square-Enix had with your download (not doubting you, just unclear on what you said it _was_), but it's clear to me that literally hundreds of thousands of trial accounts have been used to uphold a massive RMT operation which has grossly inflated pretty much everything about Final Fantasy XI.

I just question how many (more like how _few_) legitimate players, especially outside of Japan, have been brought in with this program.

eldelphia: This is why, IMHO, you have to get rid of the free trial system.

I explained how I see them working, and it depends on a system which allows a massive amount of characters to be flushed through the system for free. Make them even pay for the program for each account ID (at the very least), and the RMT system cannot be upheld.

Oh, and if you read the TTTO, you'll see several people who are pissed off at the gardening nerf. I do have to wonder about the legitimacy (in any respect, not just the specific player involved) of fifteen mules.

I know a few legit players who started through the two-week trial. It is used by more than just RMT... but of course, it's hard to see that since RMT are newsworthy, and new players aren't.
