Does anyone still want to dispute that FFXI is dead?

... especially now that Square-Enix has, in fact, given a successor, a platform, and a time-frame??

And doubly especially because it's actually going to be Final Fantasy Fourteen???

Yes, they announced it today at E3.

They kinda slipped it in as a trailer, but Square-Enix has announced that, in 2010, they will release Final Fantasy XIV Online.

The biggest part of it??  PS3 ONLY.

PS3-exclusive FFXIV.  And I don't think I need to speculate too much as to why...  The game cannot be rendered robust in a PC-environment (thanks to the botters and the RMT people), and the XLax can't handle it.

So, I'll leave the question up there in the subject line...

ON EDIT:  Saw the trailer.

It's basically FFXI for the PS3, it looks like.  About the only real draw Square-Enix can give for this is that this is going to remove a lot of the PC bullshit from the process.

SECOND EDIT:  I got a few notes saying that they are planning to put XIV on Windows, according to the official site.  Let's just say that that, at least IMODO, would be the biggest mistake they could make.

And all they have to do is take one look at Vana'diel.

I know you don't allow comments so this is just a fyi, www.finalfantasyxiv.com actually lists the two playforms as "PLAYSTATION 3" and "Windows".

So yeah. PC.

Not entirly accurate, the Sony press conference stated that it was exclusive to the PS3 console. They did not state that it was ONLY on PS3. The official site clarifies that info stating a PC version is also in the works (no exact specs at this time though as to system reqs).

I realize they said PS3 Exclusive, but they did say that "The PS3 is the only console that will have it" which makes me believe it will still be on PC because you can only consider it a platform, not a console.

I don't question your statement, Kimiko.

But, in seeing the trailer, only the logos pertaining to PS3 and the PS Network were on it.

And, one other thing: If it's not only on the PS3, it can't be declared exclusive to the console.

What I said, though, stands: Given what we know about Square-Enix and the like, if this thing gets put on PC, it's freaking toast. It's a goner. It'll basically turn into the clusterfrick that FFXI is.

Roxya: I allow comments, but I moderate them.

They've actually already stated that it's pretty much going to 360 as politically as possible. Sony bought a limited time exclusivity, that's it.

You can check out penny arcade's Wednesday news postings for the link.

Of course you're completely ignoring that EQ still goes on after EQ II was out and that minus Tabula Rasa most MMO just don't die.

odannyboy: Most MMO basically don't start coming apart at the seams, either.

(And, no, I'm not necessarily talking about tonight's Emergency Maintenance either.)

I'll dispute that XI is dead.

There's still enough people that play to maintain more than one server. It isn't dead.
